Shoulder Motion Guide

When Shoulder Pain Needs Medical Attention

Most shoulder discomfort is not an emergency, but some symptoms deserve prompt assessment rather than self-directed exercise.

Seek urgent help when appropriate

Get prompt medical care for severe pain after an injury, obvious deformity, sudden major swelling, inability to move or raise the arm, or other symptoms that feel serious or rapidly worsen. Chest pain, shortness of breath, or other systemic symptoms can require emergency evaluation.
